Paragon Backup & Recovery Free 17 unleashed, now supports differential and incremental backups

10 July 2018, Nick Peers

Paragon Backup & Recovery FreeParagon Software GmbH has released Paragon Backup & Recovery 17 Free 64-bit (also available for 32-bit), a brand-new version of its free (for personal use) backup and restore tool for Windows PCs.

Version 17 sees the program gain support for incremental and differential backups for more faster backups and more efficient use of available drive space. It also unveils a brand-new user interface with slick, user-friendly modern UI. This has made certain aspects of the program – restoring selected parts of a backup, for example – trickier to find.

The free tool offers a comprehensive series of backup tools: entire disks (including structure), individual partitions and selected files and folders.

A slick new interface and support for differential and incremental backups are the highlights in this new release.

Version 17 introduces support for both incremental and differential backups for greater flexibility and to reduce disk space usage. Differential backups record only the changes made since the last full backup was taken, while incremental backups record changes since the last incremental backup.

The latest version also unveils a smart new user interface based on the modern UI.

Users have a choice of three backup types: the entire computer (all connected volumes), Disks/Volumes (users can select individual physical disks or partitions) and files and folders.

The latter allows users to manually select individual files and folders, or choose by type across selected volumes or folders, with a range of common document, music and video formats available for pre-selection as well as an option for the user to set up their own file-type filters.

It’s simple to use – users can mix and match backup types by schedule and backup chain (full, full and incremental or full and differential), plus set up multiple jobs. This allows users to create redundant backups to multiple locations.

The program also supports the creation of recovery media, allowing users to restore backups even in the event of Windows failing to load. The app’s own restoration and image-browsing features are hidden away, but accessible: roll the mouse over the aquamarine ticks in the main backup window to locate options for exploring a specific backup image or to recover individual files and folders from it as well as deleting individual backups to recover drive space. Full restoration of a backup requires the WinPE environment.

Paragon Backup & Recovery 17 Free 32-bit and Paragon Backup & Recovery 17 Free 64-bit are available now as free downloads for PCs running Windows 7 or later. A Paragon account is required to activate the software, and free licenses are limited to one PC per account.
