Norton Security v22.17
Norton Security 2015 sports a major UI redesign.

For years Norton has been synonymous with security, and aside from a slight name change, Norton Security continues its fine tradition of offering comprehensive protection for PCs worldwide. (And it now covers Macs, iOS and Android devices, too - up to five in total.)

There’s everything you’d expect in such a security suite: strong antivirus protection that monitors files and programs not just for known threats but for suspicious behaviour too, helping block malware before it can gain a foothold on your system.

There’s the firewall, of course, silently blocking attacks from both outside and inside your PC. Web Safety components check the links you click to make sure they’re safe to visit, while downloaded files are screened and checked for both security and reliability.

Norton Security also provides a spam filter, password manager/form filler, network monitor, startup program manager, bootable repair disc option, performance-related tools and more.

What’s new? The most obvious change is a brand new user interface, updated to blend in better with the modern look of Windows 10. This release also debuts what Symantec terms its "next generation" anti-malware engine, which evaluates and offers protection against threats in real time using the cloud to reduce definition files by up to 80 per cent.

Other improvements include intelligent boot-time protection, more aggressive threat detection heuristics and automatic aggressive botnet scanning triggers. Smart data leak protection has been added along with improved Norton Community Watch integration.

Browser protection is now delivered without the need for installing browser plug-ins, while protection against socially engineered attacks has also been tightened.

The SONAR engine – used to detect brand new threats – has been improved alongside performance tweaks.

Please note, Norton Security replaces Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360. There is no direct upgrade path from those products to Norton Security - you'll have to buy a new licence - but of course they will still protect you until the end of your current subscription.

What's new in v22.17?

- Wi-Fi Security Detections: This technology has been added to alert and educate the user if we detect Man-in-the-Middle, SSL Stripping, or ARP Spoofing events.
- Norton Message Inbox:  An in-client Inbox has been added so that the user can read and centrally manage their in-product communications from Norton across multiple devices and platform
- Support Scam Messaging:  Customized notifications and education have been added for when a Support Scam threat is blocked.
- In Product Update sunset (IPUA): "Automatic Download of New Version" setting from Administrative Settings has been removed. Going forward, 22.17 customers will run LiveUpdate to upgrade to latest version or silent LU will upgrade automatically.
- Other backend changes.

Verdict:

Time will tell if the new changes deliver better security for your PC, but it’s good to see Symantec continuing to evolve its product with increased protection and a slicker user interface.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update ISO (build 1903)

Free Full Commercial Software

This is the latest version of Windows May 2019 Update. it's a media creation tool that can be used to upgrade an existing installation of Windows or create installation media for another PC. Just make your choice after launching the tool and it'll do the rest.

What was new in Windows 10, when it was released? The OS brought back the Start Menu, though with a twist: live tiles keep you up-to-date with the latest news while also providing an easy way to launch apps. (Don't worry if you prefer the Start Screen, it's still there and you can boot into it if you prefer.)

Apps now work much more like regular desktop programs. They have minimise, maximise, restore and close buttons, and can be resized (to a degree) and organised however you like.

If you've still lost track of a program in the mass of open windows, a new Task Spaces feature can help. Click its taskbar button and you'll see thumbnails for everything running now, a little like OS X's Mission Control - just click something to switch to it.

Better still, Task Spaces also supports virtual desktops. Add extra desktops as required and it'll display thumbnails of each one, making it easy to identify whatever you're after and switch to it.

There's also smarter snapping, new customisation options, and even a bunch of experimental additions to the command prompt.

May 2019 Update brings a whole host of new features for Windows 10. See the Microsoft Blog for more information.

The Windows 10 ISO will give you build 1903 which is the May 2019 Update.
