DiskBoss Free
Analyze, search, back up, clean up, and generally get more from your hard drive with this suite of tools

DiskBoss is an interesting tool that comes packed with useful hard drive-related features. Although as this is the free version, it does also have a significant restriction (more on that in a moment).

If your hard drive is running short of space, for instance, then the Analyze tool will show you which folders are grabbing the most drive real estate. The program's Classify tool gives you an alternative view on how your drive space is being used, revealing which file types are using the most drive space. And a rather basic Cleanup tool will then delete your temporary files, IE cache and so on in just a click or two.

An easy-to-use Sync tool will quickly synchronise the folders you specify. The default settings worked well for us, but it has all kinds of configuration options available, if you need them. You can choose how many threads will be used to process the files, for instance, allowing you to create a balance between sync speed and the performance impact this has on the rest of your system.

There's also a simple Search tool, a duplicate file finder, and tools to create hash signatures, file system signatures, and a host of other handy features. A small example: when you're browsing your drive in the Explorer-like file viewer, if you select some files, then right-click one of them, you'll find options to copy their names or details (that is, name, size and creation date) to the clipboard. It's a tiny thing, but a useful timesaver, and something that Windows Explorer still can't manage on its own.

The restriction? DiskBoss won't process more than 500,000 files for any one task, which is likely to be a problem if you're running a PC of any size. And there are several other features that are only available in the paid versions. Still, there's enough power here that you may still find the program useful, and of course it also works well as a demo for the commercial builds (of which there are several). You can upgrade from only $25, and the full details are on the DiskBoss site.

DiskBoss 10.8.16 adds (see complete changelog):

- Adds the ability to batch-execute disk analysis commands using the command line utility
- Adds the ability to batch-execute file copy commands using the command line utility
- Adds the ability to batch-execute file delete commands using the command line utility
- Improves the DiskBoss Server product version
- Fixes a number of bugs

Verdict:

The restrictions on this free version can be annoying, but there are still some powerful tools here. Worth a look, if only to see if the unrestricted commercial editions might be right for you.

Windows 10 November 2019 Update ISO (build 1909)

Free Full Commercial Software

This is the latest version of Windows May 2019 Update. it's a media creation tool that can be used to upgrade an existing installation of Windows or create installation media for another PC. Just make your choice after launching the tool and it'll do the rest.

What was new in Windows 10, when it was released? The OS brought back the Start Menu, though with a twist: live tiles keep you up-to-date with the latest news while also providing an easy way to launch apps. (Don't worry if you prefer the Start Screen, it's still there and you can boot into it if you prefer.)

Apps now work much more like regular desktop programs. They have minimise, maximise, restore and close buttons, and can be resized (to a degree) and organised however you like.

If you've still lost track of a program in the mass of open windows, a new Task Spaces feature can help. Click its taskbar button and you'll see thumbnails for everything running now, a little like OS X's Mission Control - just click something to switch to it.

Better still, Task Spaces also supports virtual desktops. Add extra desktops as required and it'll display thumbnails of each one, making it easy to identify whatever you're after and switch to it.

There's also smarter snapping, new customisation options, and even a bunch of experimental additions to the command prompt.

November 2019 Update brings a whole host of new features for Windows 10. See the Microsoft Blog for more information.

The Windows 10 ISO will give you build 1090 which is the November 2019 Update.
