LimeWire is a fast peer-to-peer file sharing application and torrent client.
The program is far easier to use than many of the competition. Enter a search term; choose the file you need; LimeWire downloads it, generally very quickly - performance here is excellent - and plays the file when you're done.
LimeWire will prompt you during the download if it can't find a licence, a reminder not to infringe copyright. Although if you're determined, a click will clear the alert and you won't see it again, so the program isn't going to get in your way.
P2P doesn't have to be just about downloading pirated copies of the latest DVDs, though. LimeWire includes a Friends feature that makes it straightforward to set up your own custom file sharing network with friends, family or colleagues. Log in with your Gmail, LiveJournal or Jabber account and you can then use it to exchange family photos, work documents, home videos or any other files that are too large or confidential to email.
LimeWire is also available in a PRO version, that adds optimised search results, improved performance, and an integrated AVG antivirus engine to detect and block any malware you might download. Prices start at $21.95 for a six month subscription, and you can find out more at the LimeWire site.
